On 8 15, the Cross-Border Artist Residency Program for Young Talent officially launched in Shanghai. Over 20 art institutions, galleries, and universities from 10 countries signed cooperation agreements. The first cohort of 50 young artists will travel to their respective residency sites this autumn for a three-month creative exchange. Guided by the core philosophy of "Traveling the World, Rooted in Creation," the program prioritizes three key directions: on-site creation, cross-cultural dialogue, and public presentation, charting a clear path for the international growth of emerging artistic talent.
This residency blends creative freedom with structured support across five disciplines: Visual Arts, New Media, Music, Drama, and Literature. It offers four core benefits: studio space, living stipends, mentorship, and exhibition opportunities. The program fosters a growth cycle of "arriving with questions, leaving with work," embodying the vision of "cultivating art through place, connecting hearts through creation." It symbolizes how young creators from diverse cultural backgrounds stand together to build a new transnational ecosystem for artistic growth.
Since the planning phase began in 2025, the year-long series of selection and matching processes has proceeded smoothly. In 4 of 2026, the public call for the first cohort of artists officially launched, receiving nearly 1,000 applications from over 30 countries worldwide. After three rounds of evaluation and institutional matching, 50 artists were selected. Multiple pre-departure training sessions prior to the event covered diverse topics including cross-cultural communication, studio safety, and creative methodologies. At the launch ceremony, the Planning Committee emphasized that full-cycle residency management would serve as the core focus. Anchored by three pillars—studio creation, cross-cultural dialogue, and outcome presentation—the program will implement three practical initiatives: a network of residency studios, a mentorship team for young artists, and a touring exhibition of residency outcomes. These efforts aim to connect with international networks for art talent development, advancing youth artistic exchange from short-term visits to deep residencies.

Cross-border residencies are a vital pathway for young artists' growth, making deepened multilateral cooperation essential. This residency program will establish an equitable, mutually beneficial talent development platform to foster consensus and collaboration. We will focus on improving residency quality, providing post-residency career support, and building long-term alumni networks.
